Appears on the left side of Very Safe Labs.
Appears once per run.

Madness Fountain is a Prototype Augment. When obtained, it will cause most items to disobey most spawn rules. See the Effects section for a full list of changes. Obtaining multiple copies of this Prototype has no additional effect.

Collecting System Restore.png System Restore will cause items to once again obey spawn rules.

Effects

(note that this list may not be complete and may contain inaccuracies)

  • Rerolling an item is no longer guaranteed to give you a different item.
  • Rerolling an item can now give you an Augment, Core Augment, Prototype Augment, Primary Weapon, Crushing Void, Negation Pulse, or Zen Mortar, regardless of the type of item rerolled.
  • Prototype Augments, Core Augments, and Primary Weapons will no longer follow their once per run spawning logic.
  • Core Augments can spawn with the Asceticism entropy condition active at rank 2 or while playing as Vika or Jest.
    • Attempting to pick up or salvage Core Augments as Vika or Jest will still only grant 25 nuts as normal.
  • Friendogel.png Friendogel, It's Egg!.png It's Egg!, Remnant of Kindness.png Remnant of Kindness, and Smuggler trades which offer the player random Core Augments, Repros, or Augments can now also grant Prototype Augments, Core Augments, Augments, and Primary Weapons.
  • Augments can now also spawn in Very Safe Laboratories and be given instead of a Core Augment when obtaining a Resonant Armor piece without a Core Augment of the respective type.
  • Prototypes, Core Augments, Primary Weapons, Crushing Void.png Crushing Void, Negation Pulse.png Negation Pulse, and Zen Mortar.png Zen Mortar can now spawn from any source that standard Augments can (includes the above changes to Augment spawning).
    • Heart Container.png Heart Container is still the only item that can be obtained when destroying health vending machines with Vendsmasher.png Vendsmasher.
    • When appearing in shops, Prototypes cost 2 nuts, while Primary Weapons and Powers cost 15.
    • When being offered by the Smuggler, Prototypes, Primary Weapons, and Powers cost 1 Scrapbits.png Scrapbit.
  • Primary Weapons can be salvaged for 1 Scrapbits.png Scrapbit.
  • Crushing Void, Negation Pulse, and Zen Mortar can sometimes be replaced with a Nutstack.png Nutstack instead of being given as a boss reward, even if the player has not seen or obtained them.
