Gears of Industry is a Prototype Augment. When obtained, any nut pickup the player obtains will grant them 5 nuts, instead of their usual value. However, small and gold nut pickups will also damage the player for 10 health. While the damage is applied directly to health, if the player has armor, they will not be killed upon reaching 0 health. Instead, they will start losing 10 armor when they pick up nuts, and will die once they have no health or armor. Damage to health will not overflow into armor, meaning that, for example, if the player picks up a nut with 1 health and 10 armor, they will lose 1 health and no armor upon picking up a nut. If multiple copies of this prototype are acquired, the effects will not stack, and if any copy was acquired with Prototype Resonator, the effects of that copy will take priority.

With Prototype Resonator, all nut pickups are worth 7 instead of 5, including large nuts.

Collecting System Restore will stop the player from taking damage whenever they pick up nuts.

Interactions

• The increase in nut value from Gears of Industry does not stack with Market Fluctuations.
• Gears of Industry will change the effect of Blue Streak, dropping large nut pickups instead of small nut pickups upon taking damage, with the total value of the nuts dropped now also being rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5, to a minimum of 0.
• Damage negating effects such as those of Blue Streak and Brittle Guard will not activate on damage inflicted by Gears of Industry.
• Health lost from Gears of Industry will not be affected by Brittle Guard, Flaring Hysteria, or Violence Enhancer, and will not cause maximum health to be lost with Crushing Hysteria.
• When appearing as an offer from shops and the Smuggler due to the effects of Madness Fountain, this prototype costs 2 nuts and 1 Scrapbit respectively.

Trivia

• Despite the tooltip implying that it affects all nut pickups, large nut pickups do not damage the player when collected, even if the prototype is acquired with Prototype Resonator.
• Be warned when picking up a group of nuts, especially those spawned with Scrapmetal Scavenger. Each individual drop deals damage on pickup, which can cause a single burst to deal 50 HP of damage at once.

History

• Release 1.00.19: With Prototype Resonator, now also increases the value of large nuts to 7.
• Release 1.00.16: Obtaining multiple small nut pickups at the same time with Gears of Industry will now deal 10 damage per small nut pickup obtained, rather than 10 damage total.
