Best Friend is a Prototype Augment. When obtained, a random Repro in the player's inventory will be selected. Then, the player will lose all Repros in their inventory, but will then be given 6 copies of the previously selected Repro. If this prototype is obtained while the player has no Repros in the inventory, they will instead be given 6 copies of the next Repro they obtain. Once the player has been given 6 copies of a Repro, any future Repros the player tries to obtain will instead be salvaged.

With Prototype Resonator, the player is given 8 copies of the selected Repro.

Collecting System Restore will allow the player to acquire Repros as normal again.

Interactions

• Crushing Hysteria, Flaring Hysteria, and Triplicate Spirits will not affect how many copies Best Friend grants of the selected Repro.
• When appearing as an offer from shops and the Smuggler due to the effects of Madness Fountain, this prototype costs 2 nuts and 1 Scrapbit respectively.

Trivia

• The text "it has your back." will not be displayed if the player obtains Best Friend with no Repros in their inventory.

Bugs

• If the player obtains Best Friend without Prototype Resonator or any Repros in their inventory, then obtains Prototype Resonator, they will be given 8 copies of the next Repro they obtain, intead of 6.
• If the player has Repros which have been twinified by Splintering Twinifier, obtaining Best Friend will only remove one of the twins, rather than both.
• If the player has copies of It's Egg! in their inventory when obtaining Best Friend, they will not be removed, and will hatch as normal.
• If the player obtains Best Friend without Prototype Resonator in their inventory, if the next item they obtain is a Repro, and the player is still in the same level they acquired Best Friend, the Repro will be obtained normally.
• If the player obtains a Doppelgel which copies an existing Friendogel, it can give a different Repro as normal.
