Brittle Guard is a Prototype Augment. When obtained, the next 3 hits the player takes will deal 0 damage and inflict no knockback, but hits after that will deal double damage. At the start of each level, the amount of damage immune hits the player can take is reset back to 3. If multiple copies of this prototype are obtained, the effects of the most recently obtained copy will take effect.
With Prototype Resonator, the amount of damage immune hits given upon pickup and at the start of each level is increased to 5.
Collecting System Restore removes the double damage penalty for taking a hit without immunity.
Interactions and Synergies
- Brittle Guard can allow the player to reliably take several hits without nuts while using Blue Streak, with the double damage penalty doing very little as the damage taken when getting hit without nuts with Blue Streak is already almost always lethal unless negated.
- Similarly, Brittle Guard can also allow the player to reliably take several hits without losing nuts while using Market Fluctuations.
- If the player has other sources of damage immunity such as Zookeeper's Phalanx or Blue Streak, these will be activated before Brittle Guard.
- The double damage penalty of Brittle Guard is applied after the +10 damage intake penalty from Violence Enhancer and stacks multiplicatively with the triple damage intake penalty of Flaring Hysteria.
- Brittle Guard has no effect on damage inflicted by Burn for Glory, Gears of Industry, or red vending machines.
- When appearing as an offer from shops and the Smuggler due to the effects of Madness Fountain, this prototype costs 2 nuts and 1 Scrapbit respectively.
