Burn for Glory is a Prototype Augment. When obtained, using a fully charged or ultra charged attack will cause the attack to deal 2x damage, but will also cause the player to lose 5 health, ignoring armor. If the player uses a fully charged or ultra charged attack while at 25% or less health, or at 10 or less health, the self-damage will not occur and the attack will only deal 1.5x damage. If multiple copies of this prototype are acquired, the effects will not stack, and if any copy was acquired with Prototype Resonator, the effects of that copy will take priority.
With Prototype Resonator, the health lost when the effect triggers is reduced to 3.
Collecting System Restore prevents the player from losing health whenever they fire a fully charged shot, but also reduces the damage multiplier to just 1.5x.
Interactions and Synergies
- Burn for Glory is a great way to always remain at a critical health state, allowing the player to make permanent use of Crisis Clarity and Crisis Overdrive.
- Items that can negate damage such as Brittle Guard and Remnant of Flame do not negate the damage of this prototype.
- The damage inflicted by this prototype is not increased by Brittle Guard, Flaring Hysteria, or Violence Enhancer.
- It also does not cause the player to lose max health while using Crushing Hysteria, does not trigger the effects of Blue Streak, Market Fluctuations, or Rage Insurance, and does not cause the player to lose stacks of the buff given by Remnant of Spirit.
- When appearing as an offer from shops and the Smuggler due to the effects of Madness Fountain, this prototype costs 2 nuts and 1 Scrapbit respectively.
Trivia
- Damage from Burn for Glory does not count against the player's Efficiency Bonus.
- Burn for Glory is one of the few Prototypes in which System Restore also removes a positive effect - in this case, the damage increase on charge shots gets reduced by 50%.
- If the player has Zookeeper's Burden, "charged" attacks used to launch Facesmasher or Reboot do not hurt the player or grant any extra damage, effectively making Burn for Glory do nothing until the player acquires System Restore.
