30XX is a videogame developed by Batterystaple Games. It was first released in Steam Early Access on the 18th of February 2021, and fully released on the 9th of August, 2023. It is a roguelike game with gameplay inspirations from Mega Man X and procedurally-generated levels. It is the sequel to the game 20XX, using the same characters and general playstyle while revamping the art style and overhauling the content.

Purchase

30XX is currently available and can be purchased via Steam. You can also buy it on Nintendo Switch.

Story

30XX takes place a thousand years after the events of 20XX, where Nina reawakens to find that the world that once needed her is gone, changed irreversibly by the advent of the Synthetic Mind and a human race that has lost the will to reach for the stars.

Most story elements are not currently in the 30XX Early Access version, and are assumed to be added in the game's 1.0 release.

Gameplay

Players control either Nina or Ace, exploring eight different Zones in order to defeat the Guardians that lie within. The game plays similarly to Mega Man X, with characters being able to jump, shoot and dash through levels as well as weilding an array of special Powers, granted to them upon defeating each boss. Augments can also be found within levels, providing players an immediate power boost for the rest of the run.

Between playthroughs (successful or not), players can upgrade themselves at the Memory Index, spending ingame currency to power themselves up for future runs. Alternatively, the player can choose to increase the game's difficulty at the Entropy Cluster, increasing currency rewards in exchange for various negative effects of the player's choice.
